Devizes for Europe

WELCOME!

Devizes for Europe (formerly Devizes for EU) got together in March 2018 to campaign to maintain the UK’s membership of the EU.  For those whose lives have been turned upside down by Brexit, Devizes for Europe has been a lifeline. We fought long and hard for a People’s Vote as a non-party political constituency group but as we all know we lost the battle.

WHERE NEXT?

We would of course eventually like to re-join the EU. But that signifies a long journey. We value the European Union’s commitment to human rights, the free movement of people, social policy, workers’ well being and its many shared political, historical, scientific and cultural institutions. So we initiated the alliance of pro European groups in Wiltshire, to strengthen each other’s mutual campaigns to safeguard the benefits brought by the EU in the UK.

OUR VISION FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS

WHO ARE WE? We are network of Wiltshire people upholding European Values, we have a universal and internationalist outlook, and this website is our home, our platform whilst living outside the artificially created boundary to satisfy narrow interests. We want to build on the following vision over the next year:

“We want the UK to have strong and enduring links with our neighbours in Europe, maximising opportunity and continuously improving the quality of life for all.”

January 19, 2021 By Roger Russell

For your amusement This was a question posed on Facebook on her page by an old friend from 40 years ago and now a FB Friend. Ahead of me there were 20 responses declaring NO (including my FB friend), followed by various levels of adoration. Then came me – I said: YES – Absolutely the …

Remainers are nothing like those who attacked the US Congress

January 11, 2021 By Swindon for Europe

A deeply misguided individual sent a letter into Swindon Advertiser comparing actions of Remains (who have always acted lawfully) with the actions of the seditious Trump supporters who violently attacked the US congress: https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/18994115.letters-democracy-means-accepting-vote-result/?fbclid=IwAR1IspL4CSIxVDle__egLy9DdwkG9PzIAM4ohwdQZQlmZy8l0ztDoCJ-b4M Swindon for Europe have composed an official response (see below), however many of our members were also outraged and sent letters …

Keeping in touch whilst standing on the sidelines

December 30, 2020 By Devizes for Europe

Brexit has always been an impossibility, but how it unfolds is unpredictable. We do not know how long it will take for the wider public to fully appreciate what they have lost. Nor do we know how the political landscape will unfold for the United Kingdom, but we can guess that it’s going to be …

No Erasmus from 2021 – Why!?

December 29, 2020 By Swindon for Europe

I read in a Guardian article (see link below) that the Govt have announced that we will not be sticking with Erasmus, an instead they will set up our own British scheme named after Alan Turing. Clearly, it would be great if they do set up a scheme to pay for British students to study …
