Do you think Boris Johnson should resign?

January 19, 2021 by Roger Russell

For your amusement

This was a question posed on Facebook on her page by an old friend from 40 years ago and now a FB Friend.

Ahead of me there were 20 responses declaring NO (including my FB friend), followed by various levels of adoration.

Then came me – I said: YES – Absolutely the worst British PM for a century, at least.

To which one person replied: Roger Russell because you would do so much better in a pandemic and with Brexit. Didn’t see your name on the ballot slip.

I could have replied with a single word expletive, but I didn’t. Why use one word when a thousand will do!

My rather lengthy retort was:

Well of course not, but then I’m not a populist jingoistic narcissist, self-serving, immoral, lazy, deceptive, divisive, corrupt serial liar. You could say he is proto-fascist Trump’s posh British clone.

He’s an entertaining after-dinner speaker and if he could have been honest he might have had an outstanding career in journalism.

I’m not sure BJ would have put himself up for the job of PM had he known a pandemic was around the corner – he was simply hankering after his old Etonian childhood dream of becoming ‘King of the World’ or whatever!

He expected to simply wallow in the ‘glory’ of brexit and let others do the work of getting us out of the mess. Yet his so-called great deals of Withdrawal Agreement and Trade & Cooperation Agreement have landed the UK into a mire that it will take decades to overcome. He will leave his underlings to try and sort it!

Meanwhile he manoeuvres our governmental system even further to the English (not British) nationalist right to minimise the role of Parliament and to concentrate power into the hands of an elite ministerial cabal and its rich chums. He is destroying our centuries old national reputation for integrity and the UK is finding itself a little fish in a big pool in which the pipe-dream of global Britain is laughable. Role on the dictatorship!

As it is, with Covid-19 he has found he has to do some work, even though he is generally behind the curve. And as a leader, unless he can use his populism to entertain, he is simply a blustering buffoon, blaming others but never himself. If he finds no answer to a challenge (frequent), he simply changes the subject and maligns his questioner. Please do not trust this scruffy mop-haired blondie clown for one moment and do not regard him as harmless – he is a very dangerous man.

So no, I would not compare myself with this scourge of the UK. I will be long gone before his damage to the nation is repaired and it will be up to all our children and grandchildren to effect those reparations. And lest you suggest it, I’m no lefty. Have a good day.

No reply from my original assailant, but interestingly my FB friend (you will recall, the original poster and a Boris supporter) gave me a LIKE !!

With the furore over the EU’s handling of the vaccine rollout, and the bungling of Article-16 by the EU Commission, we thought we might try and balance the perspective by sending in some letters. A few got published! Please throw a few supportive comments our way, or some thumbs up to other supportive comments! Cheers! …

Grassroots for Europe Webinar 27th Jan 2021 – notes from Will Hutton talk

January 29, 2021 By Swindon for Europe

I attended the Grassroots for Europe webinar held on 27th January with both Will Hutton and Gina Miller, and I have to say, it was quite inspiring and has made me feel more confident about our future, and that the cause we are supporting is the right one. However, we need to be agile and …

Remainers are nothing like those who attacked the US Congress

January 11, 2021 By Swindon for Europe

A deeply misguided individual sent a letter into Swindon Advertiser comparing actions of Remains (who have always acted lawfully) with the actions of the seditious Trump supporters who violently attacked the US congress: https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/18994115.letters-democracy-means-accepting-vote-result/?fbclid=IwAR1IspL4CSIxVDle__egLy9DdwkG9PzIAM4ohwdQZQlmZy8l0ztDoCJ-b4M Swindon for Europe have composed an official response (see below), however many of our members were also outraged and sent letters …
