Let’s keep our high European standards

October 26, 2020 by Swindon for Europe
funny people dressed US beef injected with hormones

Some of our campaigners from Swindon for Europe went along to the “Stop the US Trade deal” protest held in London on Saturday 24th Sept 2020 (https://www.globaljustice.org.uk/news/2020/oct/24/stop-us-trade-deal-protests-take-place-around-uk), to protest against any attempt to accept lower quality food, medicines, or anything else via a US trade deal.

This isn’t a case of being anti-American, but instead pro-European and supporting the high animal welfare and agrifood standards that have taken decades to reach. To turn away from that now to make “a quick buck” though a trumpian trade deal would be a terrible waste and a betrayal of British farmers who would find it impossible to compete.

Sign the pledge!

For those of us who couldn’t make it to the protest, the 2nd best thing is to sign our pledge, committing us to a real deal with Europe which maintains our high European food standards. This would take lower quality food off the table once and for all!

Thanks all!

The latest trade figures do not look great for anywhere for anywhere in the UK, but we in Swindon should be particularly concerned. Exports to the EU from the UK are down dramatically (40% from December), and far from made up by the small increase in exports to other parts of the world (1.7% rise). …
